ARC Review- Charlie by Siobhan Davis

Blurb:-

Demi
Dropping out of college senior year was never part of my plan. But Dad needs me, and I’d move mountains for the only parent I’ve ever known—even working for the company that fired him.

My boss, Charlie, is determined to make my life a living hell, availing of every opportunity to undermine my confidence, to humiliate and threaten me.

Sleeping with him the night of his wedding might have something to do with his attitude.

Or the fact I’m the spitting image of the woman he really wants.

If our financial situation wasn’t so dire, I’d tell Charlie to stick his job up his delectable butt.

But I’m trapped, and things are only getting worse. Because the more layers I uncover, the more I realize he is nothing l expected and everything I crave.

Charlie
If there was a manual for all the ways a person could mess up his life, it’d have my name written on it.

I can’t undo the things I’ve done, no matter how badly I want to, and every day is a constant reminder of my epic failure.

Especially her.

It’s as if Demi has been put on this earth to punish me. To inflict more torture and pain. Because every second I’m around her, she makes me feel things I don’t want to feel.

So, I lash out. Doing my best to push her away.

Until I realize she’s everything I never knew I needed, and the fight becomes a new battle—one to win her heart.

Releasing in the Bully Me: Class of 2020 anthology on March 24, 2020. Thereafter, it will be released as a separate title in the Rydeville Elite series on May 4, 2020. 60k word short novel with no cliffy and a HEA.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

My Review:

One…

Two…

Three…

Charlie is the fourth book in Rydeville Elite series followed by a trilogy.
I was literally squirming in my seat, counting down the seconds for the review copy to drop in my Kindle. I was so excited and rightfully so, because I enjoyed the hell outta this!

Charles Barron Jr., aka, Charlie was one of the side characters in the previous books.
At the end of Sweet Retribution, I was left heartbroken for him.
Due to his past mistakes, he ended up losing everything – his family, his friends, his love. Beating himself over the guilt of the role he played in his father’s demise, Charlie had effectively secluded himself.

The story starts the night of Charlie and Abby’s wedding. The woman he had sex with his wedding night is finally revealed and it is none other than his PA, Demi.

Demitria Alexander, aka, Demi is the daughter of a former employee of Barron Banks and was more or less kicked out of his job by Charlie’s dad, due to a critical medical condition the former had acquired.
Struggling to take care of her ailing father, paying off her student loans, mortgage and medical bills, Demi has no time for relationships much less the complications that comes with sleeping with her boss on his wedding night.

When Charlie is hell bent on bullying her, it is easy to ignore the attraction between them, but is she strong enough not to fall for his charms?

The dynamics of Charlie and Demi’s relationship was portrayed marvellously in the first half of the book. I loved the way Charlie bullied Demi. Siobhan has indeed woven her magic and her writing skills are impeccable. The level of angst and smut are well balanced and with perfect timing.

But in the second half of the book, the story gets more narrative. I mean, there were scenes which I’d have liked to be read rather than informed of later. Also, we weren’t given much details of Elite business and since it was such a major part of the first three books, I was looking forward to get more information about it. The ending was a bit rushed, but the epilogue made up for that.

I enjoyed reading this book very much and am desperately waiting for news on Drew’s book.

Review - The Unrequited by Saffron A. Kent

The Unrequited by Saffron A. Kent My rating: 5 of 5 stars 5 stars 🌟 For my reviews and more, visit my blog LaraBabbles Book Blog My mother probably thought I had a break up over phone or bad period cramps. Yep! That is how I ugly cried while reading this book. After a series of disappointing reads, this book came to me as a life-saver. The Unrequited is going to be my all time favorite book from now on. I must confess that when I read the blurb, I thought that this book was going to be another explicit story about how a girl lusts after her Professor and all the typical drama that comes with a forbidden Romance. And for my ignorance and stereotyping, I got smacked in my face with a bucket load of angst and a beautiful heartbreaking story. I was in a perpetual state of blocked throat while reading this book. The Unrequited is a story of a heartbroken girl, Layla Robinson who has sworn off love due to a terrible ending with her first attempt at loving someone. She is miserabl
